JAMES R. DABNEY
BORN SHERIDAN, WYOMING
I grew up on a 15,000 acre Cattle Ranch in the heart of Wyoming.I began my broadcast career in September 1966 at age 16. My high school speech teacher Lois Sackman scheduled an interview for me at our local radio station. I was hired as an evening rock jock. It helped put me through Central Wyoming College with a major in broadcast.
I stayed with River Broadcasting, for 18 years leaving as General Sales Manager to be a partner in a new broadcast venture. That venture was WindRiver Communication, a 100,000 watt FM where I was a partner and VP/DOS from 1984 through August of 1989. We sold this company in 2001.
My wife and I decided to move to Pennsylvania in August of 1989 to be closer to her family. I accepted a position as Station Manager of WRSC-AM WQWK-FM and Lion Country Video, a cable company in State College, PA.
I met John Dame early in 1990 and he offered me a position as General Manager of WRAK-AM/WKSB-FM in Williamsport, PA where I have been since April 1, 1990, now owned by Clear Channel Communications since 1999.
I have been in Broadcasting from 1966 to present…43 years with no interruptions.I'm married to Lisa Smith Dabney, Pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Williamsport, we have 4 children-Tara, Ryan, Colter, and Olivia.
