Ken Sawyer has been on the radio in Williamsport since 1970. Ken has worked in every facet of radio. From 1970 to 1988 he worked for WWPA. From 1988 until now he has worked for WRAK and its growing family of stations. WRAK is owned by Clear Channel Communications. In the Williamsport area that includes KISS-FM, BILL 95FM and Variety 97.7.
Currently, Ken serves as sports director and a news reporter for all the Williamsport stations. He is the operations manager for WRAK. Included in those duties is the hosting of a daily talk show. Ken is the play by play voice of Williamsport High School football and basketball, and is one of the voices or the Little League World Series Radio Network.
Ken is a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Ridley Township High School in Delaware County and he attended Drexel University. Ken also taught part-time for several years at Lycoming College.
In the Williamsport community, Ken has served more than 25 years as a Red Cross volunteer, including as county chairman in 1991-1993. He has served on the board of directors of North Central Sight Services, Lycoming County-Brotherhood County USA, the West Branch Sports Hall of Fame and Junior Achievement. He has also served in numerous capacities at the Newberry Church of Christ. Ken is a member of the board of directors of the South Williamsport Area School District Foundation. He also served on the local re-accreditation committee of the South Williamsport Junior-Senior High School.
Ken has received several honors including being inducted to the West Branch Valley Chapter Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was also honored with the Ray Keyes Brotherhood Sports Award. The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters have awarded his broadcasts the Best Sports Play by Play of the Year Award on several occasions. Ken was named winner of the Douglas Dickey Award as Humanitarian of the Year for 2002 by Lycoming County United Way. In 2004 Ken was named the winner of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association annual Roy Morgan Award for broadcast excellence.
Ken and his wife, Merlyn have been married more than 40 years. The Sawyer family has lived in South Williamsport since 1972. They are parents of three children and four grandchildren. Their children are daughter Jennifer and twin sons are Sam and Sean. The grandchildren are Bridget Pfirman and Ava, Cecelina, and Annalea Sawyer.
